A college education is almost essential in today's job market but college education is not limited to degrees and diplomas. Skilled workers are also in demand, and the only way to get training in some trades is to attend classes and workshops at a trade or vocational college. Some examples of this include auto mechanics, butchers, chefs, electricians, and other "hands on" jobs that require a combination of school training and apprenticeship. While technical schools may once have been seen as a place for students with less academic potential, they are now recognized as making a valuable contribution to workforce training and retraining.
